We had so many fundraising events lined up with our supporters who love a challenge. Many were hoping to complete their own running and cycling challenges in a bid to raise as much as possible for carers and their families, sadly due to the global pandemic, these have quite rightly been cancelled, but we hope that our existing fundraisers and new supporters will consider completing a couple of our virtual challenges this year.
So here at Blackpool Carers’ we’ve come up with something a little different for you….. you knew we would!
Our ‘Climbing for Carers’ is a virtual mountaineering challenge.
You can scale one of the UK’s tallest peaks such as Ben Nevis, take on the virtual National Three Peaks, or scale the equivalent height to Mount Kilimanjaro and all whilst wearing your pyjamas and not leaving your house! All you need are stairs!
Choose from one or all of the following virtual mountains:
- Ben Nevis Ascent 1,310m = 6,550 stairs to the top
- Snowdon Ascent 922m = 4,610 stairs to the top
- Scafell Pike Ascent 884m= 4,420 stairs to the top
- Total for the Three Peaks Challenge 3,116m = 15,580 stairs to the top
- Kilimanjaro Ascent 4,983m = 24,915 stairs to the top
Count your stairs at home (a), divide the number of stairs to the top by (a) and this is the number of time you need to go up!
Please note: For this challenge we have used the stair and height data from muchbetteradventures.com, assumed a step height of 20cm and the ascent height from sea level, rather than the height of the mountain. Of course you are welcome to climb the full height should you wish to make it a little harder.
To register for your chosen challenge, email Julie.email@example.com then spread the word amongst your friends and family and away you go, without the need to set foot outside!
