Young Carers Conference 2023 – Children Who Care Too
As we mark 11 years since we held our first Young Carers Conference, this second event, ‘Children Who Care Too’, will provide an update on best practice for young carers support, for those who provide services around the country.
Professor Saul Becker, President of Blackpool Carers Centre, will provide the keynote address, updating the attendees on young carers in the widest possible context.
We will also unveil research, conducted in Blackpool, on the true number of young carers in the town as well as providing a comparison with the 2021 census figures. We already know that the results will be startling, with the number of young carers in Blackpool schools far exceeding our expectations.
There has never been a more appropriate moment to shine a spotlight on the number of young carers in our community, the value and esteem in which they are held as well as the support that they require. Part of the reason Blackpool Carers Centre exists, is to increase the awareness of the role of carers in our community.
We hope that the conference and the associated research will help more people to understand the scale and scope of the work of young carers.
Alongside Professor Becker, guest speakers and practitioners will provide workshop sessions, focusing on specific areas of research and practise. These sessions will represent the very latest thinking on young carers support, with practical applications to ensure that the lessons learned can be shared and replicated.
We hope to welcome a range of professionals who work with young carers and share with them learning and good practice from our experiences in Blackpool.
