Never mind the Tour de France or even the Tour of Britain, a team of 26 intrepid cyclists from across the North West are combining both tours into their very own Tower to Tower Challenge to raise funds for local Blackpool Charity, Blackpool Carers.
Cycling 500 miles from the iconic Blackpool Tower to its inspiration, the Eiffel Tower in Paris over 5 days will be no easy feat but the courageous group are determined to enjoy the adventure.
Faye Atherton, Director of Quality at Blackpool Carers said, “All these brave cyclists have put so much into raising an incredible amount of money for Blackpool Carers, not only that they have juggled the fundraising, training, family, work and even given up taking family holidays to fit everything in throughout the year. We are in awe of every single one of them and can’t thank them enough for taking on this challenge”.
The group are from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds with the age range going from mid-20’s up to a group member who recently celebrated his 69th birthday. With a Funeral Director, Police Officer, IT Specialist, Builder and a Pharmaceutical Representative (who climbed Kilimanjaro as part of his fundraising), as well as a couple of our very own staff, their backgrounds couldn’t be more different either.
After 12 months of fundraising and training, the group will depart on Monday 23rd September from the Comedy Carpet opposite Blackpool Tower at 8.15am. They will be cheered on this epic voyage by a whole host of friends, family and well-wishers with their first overnight stop at Stoke-On-Trent 104 miles away.
Anyone wishing to join the well-wishers is asked to arrive at the Comedy Carpet on Blackpool Promenade at 7.45am on Monday 23rd September.
